“for me craft beer is all about small batch individual breweries just kicking out really cool beers”.

Richard Brown, founder of the Way Outback Brewing Company in Southbourne, talks about quitting his job as an engineer, starting a brewery and crowd funding a taproom that has breathed new life into once neglected part of a much loved high street.

Testament to the ‘get up and get it done’ spirit found amongst many of Bournemouth’s resident start up and small business owners, Richards passion for craft beer and creating a great environment to enjoy it in, is front and centre in what’s now become a community pub.

An always lively destination venue ideal for sampling local craft beers and some from further a field too, as well as the Way Outback’s own beer, this taproom has a friendly feel populated by friendly locals. You’ll likely see Arthur the dog holding court front of house and more often than not be able to find out more about their brewing methods from Richard with odd impromptu brewery tour thrown in.
